Islamabad Safe City: Mohsin Naqvi Sets Sept 30 Deadline

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has instructed authorities to wrap up the ongoing expansion of the Islamabad Safe City initiative by the end of September. The directive was issued during a progress review meeting at the project's headquarters, where senior leadership evaluated the capital's upgraded surveillance footprint.

Accompanied by Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry, Naqvi received a technical briefing on the current state of infrastructure deployment. Project administrators confirmed that roughly 85 percent of the overarching expansion work has been executed successfully across the federal capital.

According to official figures presented during the session, the installation of new security cameras has reached the 85 percent mark. To support this expanded monitoring web, technical teams have successfully laid 415 kilometers of specialized fiber optic cables across various sectors of the city.

Progress on core central infrastructure is also moving forward quickly. Senior officials revealed that tasks related to the central data facility, digital cyber architecture, and security protocols have surpassed 80 percent completion.

Emphasizing the government's objectives, Naqvi reiterated that the primary goal is to transform the capital's surveillance mechanism into a modern, smart, and world-class system modeled after established international hubs. He noted that relying on technology-driven solutions remains essential for protecting citizens and enhancing law enforcement capabilities.
