Heavy Rain Submerges Lahore Roads, Causes Severe Disruptions

A severe spell of heavy monsoon rainfall struck the provincial capital on Saturday, paralyzing daily routines and disrupting commuter traffic across multiple neighborhoods. Torrential downpours submerged primary arterial roads, inundated key underpasses, and caused widespread waterlogging in low-lying residential sectors throughout the city.

Commuters faced immense hardship as waterlogged streets stalled vehicles and left drivers navigating treacherous stretches of flooded asphalt. Pedestrians were similarly stranded, attempting to wade through inundated pathways after urban drainage channels struggled to cope with the sudden deluge.

Data compiled by the Water and Sanitation Agency reveals that the city recorded an average rainfall depth of 24.6 millimeters during the storm. However, precipitation levels varied drastically across municipal sectors, with eastern and outlying districts bearing the brunt of the heavy cloudburst.

The heaviest concentration of rainfall was logged at the Allama Iqbal International Airport zone, which received a staggering 104 millimeters. Other significantly impacted locations included Kahna with 75.6 millimeters, Hadiara along Defence Road recording 62.6 millimeters, and Manawan registering 58.6 millimeters of accumulation.

Moderate measurements were documented elsewhere across the metropolitan area, including 40.2 millimeters in Tajpura and 32.8 millimeters in Mughalpura. Neighborhoods such as Shadipura and Nishtar Town recorded around 28 millimeters, whereas central zones including Gulberg, Johar Town, and Upper Mall logged lighter totals ranging between 9 and 11 millimeters.
