Army Officer Killed, 7 Militants Dead in Hangu Raid

An intelligence-driven counter-terrorism mission in northwestern Pakistan resulted in the death of an army captain alongside seven insurgent fighters, according to military statements released on Saturday. The engagement unfolded in the Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province following credible reports of militant movement in the region.

Security forces launched the targeted raid on Friday after identifying a cell belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, officially designated by state authorities as Fitna al Khawarij. Troops moved to surround the suspect location, initiating a direct confrontation with the armed group.

As troops closed in during the exchange of fire, the armed insurgents attempted to evade capture by breaching a local mosque and taking cover inside the sanctuary. Military officials criticized the tactics, emphasizing that the fighters showed total disregard for the religious site's sanctity while firing upon surrounding forces.

Security personnel ultimately eliminated all seven militants barricaded inside the structure during the violent standoff. The army's media branch, Inter-Services Public Relations, affirmed that a young captain lost his life while leading troops from the front line during the clash.

High-ranking military officials routinely characterize such operations as critical to neutralizing residual militant networks across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Clearing operations continue in surrounding rural zones to ensure no remaining elements of the hostile network evade detection.
