Cameron Norrie produced a stunning fightback at the ATP Montreal Masters on Thursday, overcoming a set and double-break deficit to eliminate third seed Alex de Minaur in a three-hour thriller. The British player saved a match point before storming through the final set to secure a 5-7, 7-6(7/5), 6-1 victory.

De Minaur appeared in complete command of the contest and had an opportunity to seal a straight-sets victory during the eighth game of the second set. However, Norrie erased the match point, pressed forward to capture the second-set tiebreak, and ultimately dominated a fading opponent in the decider.

Reflecting on his resilience, the 2021 Indian Wells champion noted the importance of surviving such a stern challenge. "It was a great match to win and test my level," Norrie said, adding, "I can take so much confidence from this one."

According to reports from Dawn Sport, De Minaur's exit continues a chaotic trend at the hardcourt US Open tuneup event. The tournament was already lacking top-ranked Jannik Sinner and 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic, while high seeds Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Daniil Medvedev all suffered early eliminations or withdrawals.

Following De Minaur's defeat, fifth seed and defending champion Ben Shelton now stands as the highest remaining seeded player heading into the fourth round.
