Israeli Forces Build Barrier in Lebanese Village

In an event that threatens to complicate a diplomatic accord, Israeli forces allegedly crossed into the southern Lebanese village of Zawtar al-Gharbiya overnight and erected an earthen roadblock, according to Lebanese state media and local authorities.

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported that Israeli troops moved into the area shortly past midnight, constructing a large mound of dirt near the town center. A local journalist confirmed the presence of the barrier at the village's eastern access point, noting that it completely cut off road traffic.

The reported ground activity occurs in a sensitive zone. Zawtar al-Gharbiya was selected as one of two primary pilot locations where the Lebanese Armed Forces were scheduled to assume security responsibilities as part of a US-sponsored agreement agreed upon with Israel in June.

When contacted regarding the incident, the Israeli military stated that it was not aware of any operation taking place in that location. Local representatives noted that it remained uncertain whether any Israeli soldiers stayed within the village perimeter following the construction of the roadblock.

According to reports from Dawn World, Israeli forces have maintained a wide footprint across southern Lebanon since launching a ground invasion earlier this year. That campaign began after Hezbollah joined the broader Middle East military campaign alongside Iran in March.
