Typhoon Dolphin Threatens Eastern China After Japan Strike

Emergency safety protocols are underway across eastern China as a powerful tropical storm moves toward the coastline, threatening millions with severe flooding, heavy downpours, and violent wind gusts. Chinese emergency managers have heightened risk assessments for vulnerable infrastructure ahead of the storm's anticipated arrival late Sunday into Monday morning.

Forecasts from China's National Meteorological Centre indicate that Typhoon Dolphin will generate sustained wind speeds reaching 162 kilometres per hour (101 mph). Equivalent in force to a Category 2 hurricane, the tempest carries sufficient intensity to cause widespread structural damage, uproot trees, and disrupt regional utility grids before weakening as it tracks inland.

In response to the threat, regional authorities across Zhejiang, Shanghai, northern Fujian, and northeastern Jiangxi are preparing for torrential rainfall expected to persist through August 10. According to reports from Business Recorder, safety precautions already implemented include recalling maritime vessels to harbour, relocating offshore platform crews to safety, and expanding inspection routines at mountain streams, tourist spots, construction locations, and reservoirs.

The storm's push toward China comes shortly after it caused significant disruption in southern Japan. While sweeping through Okinawa prefecture, Typhoon Dolphin injured six people and left more than 50,000 buildings without electrical power.
