Filmmakers Ally Pankiw and Kate Herron have publicly revealed their decision to decline working on HBO's upcoming television adaptation of the Harry Potter franchise. The directors confirmed their refusal on social media, citing author J.K. Rowling's vocal opinions on transgender rights as the decisive factor.

According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, Pankiw expressed a firm rejection when approached about the project, posting "Absolutely F***ing Not" on her social media platforms. Alongside Herron, who previously directed episodes of Marvel's Loki and Netflix's Sex Education, the creative duo urged colleagues in the entertainment industry to "Say 'no' to funding transphobia."

The upcoming HBO series aims to reboot the fantasy franchise with a decade-long television commitment, adapting each of Rowling's seven books into individual seasons. However, Rowling's continued role as an executive producer on the series has drawn recurring scrutiny and resistance from prospective creative partners and cast members across the entertainment sector.
