Coco Gauff and Elena Rybakina Reach Toronto Quarterfinals

Fourth seed Coco Gauff and second seed Elena Rybakina both secured places in the quarterfinals of the National Bank Open on Sunday, delivering standout performances in Toronto.

Gauff delivered a convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory over Russian teenager Alina Korneeva. Despite suffering an early drop in service to start the match, the 22-year-old Floridian immediately broke back and controlled the contest. She broke Korneeva in three of her four service games during the opening set before sweeping all four of her opponent's service games in the second set.

Throughout the match, Gauff captured 42 out of 68 return points, achieving a 61.8 percent success rate. The result brought Gauff to a rare milestone, making her only the second player after Martina Hingis to record 25 Tier 1 or WTA 1000 quarterfinal appearances prior to her 23rd birthday.

Earlier in the day, Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina was forced to endure a physical three-set battle against Russia's Liudmila Samsonova. Rybakina ultimately prevailed 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a match that lasted nearly three hours and featured 217 total points.

Although Rybakina posted strong serving numbers overall, she had to navigate pressure throughout the marathon contest, defending against 13 break points before finally holding off Samsonova to claim her place in the final eight.
