PQA Urged to Speed Up Karachi Cricket Stadium Construction

Work on a delayed sports venue in Karachi is expected to move forward rapidly following instructions from Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Mohammad Junaid Anwar. The minister has ordered the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) to address procedural delays holding back a planned cricket stadium and academy project.

The decision came during a recent progress review meeting led by the minister to evaluate ongoing infrastructure developments. As reported by Dawn Sport, officials briefed Minister Anwar that financial bids for the venue were opened in May, but procedural bottlenecks stalled the issuance of a work order.

Responding to the delay, the minister instructed the responsible PQA wing to immediately finalize paperwork and issue the official work order. This directive clears the way for the chosen construction firm to mobilize equipment and begin building on-site without further setbacks.

A PQA representative told Dawn on Friday that since the public procurement tendering phase is complete, the contract will be formally granted to the lowest bidder shortly. The representative anticipated that actual construction work on the cricket stadium would start within two weeks.

Beyond the cricket facility, Minister Anwar extended his directive to include the development of hockey infrastructure. He instructed the Port Qasim Authority to officially initiate the planning and construction process for a brand-new hockey stadium situated inside the authority’s residential housing complex.
