Iran Has Not Decided to Resume US Talks, Says Abbas Araqchi

Tehran has not taken any official decision to re-engage in direct or indirect diplomatic negotiations with Washington, according to statements made by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. The minister's remarks, published in an interview on Saturday, clarify Iran's official position regarding recent diplomatic contacts facilitated by intermediary regional partners. According to Business Recorder, Araqchi asserted that present communication channels should not be interpreted as active negotiations between the two countries.

Speaking directly to the Iranian media outlet Shahrara News, the foreign minister addressed international speculation surrounding mediation efforts in the Middle East. Araqchi explained that while messages are being actively relayed through diplomatic channels involving Pakistan and Qatar, these indirect exchanges serve strictly as message conduits rather than formal sessions aimed at negotiating terms with the United States.

In addition to clarifying communication through Islamabad and Doha, Araqchi detailed separate discussions held with Oman. He stated that the ongoing talks with Omani officials are dedicated specifically to defining clear sea transit routes through the Strait of Hormuz, which remains one of the world's most vital energy corridors.

Regarding international maritime trade through the narrow passage, the foreign minister emphasized that conditions must be met prior to any operational normalization. Araqchi stated that the United States is required to fulfill specific requirements before full commercial shipping activities can reliably resume across the strategic waterway.
