Hollywood Unions Ask AG to Settle Paramount Antitrust Suit

Hollywood's major labor organizations are calling for a swift resolution to legal challenges surrounding Paramount's proposed consolidation, warning that lingering regulatory hurdles threaten stability across the film and television industry.

In a joint letter sent Wednesday, the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) asked California Attorney General Rob Bonta to negotiate a settlement in his office's antitrust action against Paramount. According to reports from Variety, the correspondence was directed to both Bonta and Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison.

The union leaders argued that extended legal friction surrounding the transaction creates widespread disruption for entertainment workers, as studios hold off on greenlighting new projects amid corporate uncertainty. They pressed state officials to allow the corporate merger to proceed under specific regulatory conditions rather than maintaining an open-ended court challenge.

Regulatory scrutiny has intensified over recent media consolidations, as state and federal enforcement agencies examine how studio mergers impact competition, labor conditions, and creative output. However, labor leaders emphasize that prolonged industry stagnation harms frontline crew members and directors just as severely as unchecked market expansion.
