Hamas Demands US Pressure Israel Over Gaza Peace Deal

Militant group Hamas has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing a United States-sponsored peace framework for the Gaza Strip, calling on Washington to compel Israel into honoring the proposed arrangement. The stance comes as diplomatic efforts face friction over political resistance within the Israeli leadership.

According to a senior Hamas official, Palestinian factions have notified international mediators of their willingness to enter the second stage of the agreement. This phase includes surrendering arms to an emerging Palestinian administrative authority designed to oversee the devastated enclave, contingent upon reciprocal commitment and formal consent from West Jerusalem.

The militant leadership urged the White House to leverage its political weight against Israel, arguing that external pressure is required to keep the multi-stage initiative on track. Without explicit Israeli endorsement, mediators fear the momentum built by recent diplomatic interventions could erode rapidly.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, has publicly distanced his government from the current draft generated by Washington’s peace initiative. Facing an arduous reelection campaign later this year alongside intense pushback from his right-wing coalition partners, Netanyahu maintained that Israel never formally signed off on the blueprint.

The growing divergence highlights the delicate nature of the peace framework, which relies heavily on American mediation to bridge deep-seated divisions. With Washington attempting to lock in stability across the region, the contrast between Hamas’s conditional readiness and Israel’s official reluctance threatens to stall the next phase indefinitely.
