Donald Trump Warns FIFA Against Replacing President Gianni Infantino

US President Donald Trump has issued a strong defense of embattled FIFA President Gianni Infantino, cautioning the global football governing body against any effort to oust its top official. Writing on Truth Social, Trump described Infantino as "fantastic" and warned that dismissing him would jeopardize the future success and profitability of global football operations.

Trump's comments follow escalating backlash against Infantino from key international football authorities. European body UEFA, North and Central American association CONCACAF, and Asia's AFC collectively issued an open letter challenging Infantino's leadership. According to reports from Dawn Sport, the joint declaration accused the FIFA chief of breaking organizational trust "through deception."

The rift stems primarily from Infantino's unsuccessful bid to offload commercial stakes in the World Cup to private investors. Despite the mounting pressure from three of FIFA's six continental confederations, Trump insisted that Infantino "presided over the most successful World Cup, by four times, ever presented."

In his post, Trump argued that FIFA would be making a "terrible mistake" if it even evaluated replacing Infantino, asserting that future events would fail to reach the same heights if he left office. The two figures have maintained close ties, with Trump attending last month's World Cup final alongside Infantino, who also presented the American leader with a "FIFA Peace Prize" during the event's draw ceremony last year.
